Youth Mentorship at BecomeOne is about walking alongside young people, not ahead of them. We connect teens and young adults with caring mentors who listen, encourage, and help them build stronger mental wellness habits day by day.
Our mentors are trusted adults and trained volunteers who understand how heavy school, family expectations, identity questions, and social media pressure can feel. They're not there to judge or lecture. Instead, they check in regularly, ask real questions, and help youth talk through what's going on beneath the surface.
Mentorship might look like meeting at a school or community space to unpack a tough week, practice coping tools, or set small, realistic goals. It can include help with navigating friendships, handling conflict, or figuring out how to talk to parents or teachers about what's really happening emotionally.
For youth who have struggled with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or deep loneliness, a mentor can be that one consistent person who keeps showing up and saying, "You matter, and I'm here." When it makes sense, mentors also help connect young people to additional resources - like support groups, workshops, or professional help - so they're not trying to figure everything out alone.
We pay close attention to safety and fit. That means thoughtful matching, clear boundaries, and guidance for both mentors and mentees about what a healthy, respectful relationship looks like. Parents and caregivers are included as partners, so everyone knows the goal: supporting a young person's mental wellness, hope, and sense of possibility.
Youth Mentorship isn't about fixing kids. It's about reminding them of their strengths, giving them tools for hard moments, and making sure they have at least one adult in their corner who truly sees them.
